Happy Home For Two

You know what people say: “Home is where the heart is”. I totally agree. You can live for years in a place you don’t feel you belong to. Some people search forever to find a place they can call home. But once you find it the fairy tale begins. You just feel you’re in the right place.

And by “place” I don’t mean only the town or city you live in, but the apartment or house. Even if you work a lot and you don’t spend a lot of time there, it’s a place you come to every evening.

It’s a place where you relax, sleep, raise your children (if you have any). So, I think it’s very important to ask yourself the question:

“Am I happy with my home?”

  •  If the answer is honestly, totally “yes” stop reading this post.
  • But if you interested in improving your home in the way it’ll make you calmer and happier, I’ve got some ideas.

Let the sunshine in!

The most proper light for our eyes is day light. I’m sure most of us work in offices where the light is limited and we have to use lamps. If you’re home during the day, it’s easy – just pull the curtains. But in the evening you should turn on the lightening in any case. So, choose it carefully. I personally like bright light at home, but some people prefer dim lights. A little trick: If you want to make your home brighter and visual bigger, color the walls in white.

Make a space for cuddling

Our home is our love nest”, told me a friend of mine, who just started living with her boyfriend. If you live with your partner, I’m sure you share her philosophy. When you live together, it’s good to arrange the place in a way you both feel comfortable in. So, don’t forget to make yourself a place for cuddle. It can’t be a whole room, if you live in a small apartment. But it could be the sofa in the living room or the bed. Choose one which suits you both – soft or hard, green, red or blue. Arrange it together, put a lot of pillows on it and candles around it, if you like. This place will be your oasis where you can escape the reality together from time to time.

A big library is always a good idea

Books are our windows to imaginary and beautiful worlds. There’s noting more relaxing than reading a book on the sofa or while taking a bath. I’m sure you’ll agree with me. So, having a big library at home is a question of happiness. If you live in a big house, you can use one of the rooms to make your own cabinet. You can put there a desk, a computer…and all of your book. But, if you live in a small apartment, like I do, there are other options for keeping your books. Vintage suitcase is one of them. Other is a hand made shelf. In Ikea you can find good ideas.

Photos keep memories alive

We all have moments we don’t want to forget. That day when we met in the beach bar, or first vacation in Paris, the evening we get drunk with with our friend (hmm, may be this one we prefer to forget :)). I know, social medias like Facebook, Instagram and Google+ can keep all of your memories, captured in photos, but I’m a bit old fashioned. I prefer my pics printed in paper, put in frames. You can put your wedding photos in the bedroom, above the bed or in the living room, next to the sofa… why not even in the bathroom? Having your best memories in photos will make your place the most happy one ever. It’ll be a temple of your relationship.

Have your very own place

Being a couple is wonderful most of the time, but sometimes you need to spend some time alone with yourself. You can go to your best friends place of to your parents home… or you can just make your own place in your home. If you live in a house, no problem – make your own room. But if it’s a two-or three room apartment, you can’t have a whole room just for you. In this case split one room. I don’t mean to build a real wall in the middle of it. In one corner you can make a nook for girls with pillows and on the other – one for boys with PlayStation 4, for example.

Clean home – happy home

Some couple argue often about housecleaning. It’s a topic that can even ruin a relationship. How to avoid it to happen? My proposal is: if you’re both very busy, just hire someone to do the cleaning for you. You won’t spend the whole weekend cleaning and you’ll have enough time to enjoy each other.

These are just some of the ideas for making a happy home for two. If you have any others, I can’t wait to hear them. You can share them in the comments below.
