How to Clean Your Carpet with Home Products?

home cleaning productsDo you know that the majority of the cleaning products which are sold in the grocery stores can emit some rather harmful fumes, which can lead to mild to serious health problems, starting with skin irritations, breathing problems, and leading to asthma, allergies and even to cancer?

This is why more people are looking for using home remedies and safe home supplies to clean their homes, carpets included. Some of the most commonly used, highly efficient and perfectly safe cleaning products you probably already have among your household items in your cupboards, include vinegar and baking soda.

Vinegar contains acetic acid and can help kill off the germs from your carpets, flooring and any surfaces in your home. Instead of using bleach, which releases fumes which can irritate your breathing and your skin, use a vinegar and water solution to wash your tiles and bathroom floor and walls.

Using a water and vinegar solution for carpet cleaning and stain removal is also very efficient and 100% safe for you, your children and pets. Apply some of the solutions on a clean cloth and start blotting the spill, use a cloth dipped in water to rinse the stain and then paper towels to soak up as much of the leftover water.

Vinegar can also be used instead of chemically based laundry solutions to wash your bed linen, towels and clothes. To keep your washing machine odour-free and clean, you can perform a monthly natural cleaning by pouring some baking soda in the detergent basket and vinegar in the drum and running a high-temperature setting of your washing machine. This will remove any residue and unpleasant odour from the washing machine, so your next load of laundry will smell as good as ever. Vinegar can be used instead of a textile softener as well.

Baking soda mixed with vinegar into a paste too can be used to remove stains from carpets and upholstery. Apply the paste on the stain and let it set. You can gently scrub it in the carpet with an old toothbrush, without rubbing it too hard.
Baking soda sprinkled on a smelly rug and left to sit for about 10 hours will remove all odours after it is thoroughly vacuumed on the next day.
Baking soda is also very efficient for cleaning sinks, bathtubs, stove tops, and a number of other items and surfaces at home. It does no harm to the materials cleaned and leaves them squeaky clean.

So, forget about all the chemical-based detergents and other products you see on TV advertisements and in the stores, and instead get that vinegar and baking soda out and ready to give your home a thorough and efficient cleaning.
Next time you spill something on your rug just get your vinegar and soda ready, and you can avoid using the stain removal products which contain a number of harmful chemicals.

If you resort to the services of professional carpet cleaners, make sure that they use green and safe solutions for deep cleaning your carpets, upholstery or mattresses.
