There are two reasons people don’t prefer green when planning a party. They think it’s not easy, or they have a very wrong picture of the green events as casual and unofficial. They define them as camping parties. That is very wrong view. With some simple tips, we can make a green party, regardless of size, budget, or occasion.

INVITATIONS
Nowadays the bigger part of the communication process is made online. You will save a lot of paper. If you can’t make good design or you have no time for making invitations you can use some professional services like Paperless Post, Evite or celebrations.com for example.
If you still need paper invitations you should use tree-free or recycled paper. You can choose another fun option – seed paper. It’s made from 100% eco materials and it’s embedded with seeds. When someone discard it, the paper will decompose it and the seeds will sprout.

LIGHTING
Always if it is possible you should try to use natural daylight. If you organize an evening party, it’s good to start it with one beautiful picture – the sunset. Most photographers call the sunset – “the magic hour”. That’s why you will have a unique photo gallery.
When dusk, you should make one great atmosphere with candles, not with electric lights. It’s good to use soy based candles because wax candles are made of the petroleum byproduct called paraffin. Scatter candles everywhere for a better atmosphere. You can use almost everything for candle holders. This advice is important to protect yourself and your guests from the fire. You can put the candles in plates, glasses or bowls. With a little ingenuity, you can make lanterns from wire and old jars. That is my favorite idea because you can use it a lot of times.

SET THE TABLE
It’s good to use real plates and glasses instead plastic elements. If the party is huge and it’s not possible to use this kind of items it’s good to buy colored utensils. The more colors the better for the guests mood. This trick for mixing colors will help you bring the funky and electric element at your event.
When you use plastic utensils, try biodegradable plates made from sugar cane. It’s better to choose finger foods, and you will not need forks, spoons, and knives. Always use textile napkins, you will add refinement to your event, and you can use them more than one time after you wash them.

CATERING
When you organize that kind of events you should look for two things in the catering: organic and local products. Organic because you want healthy food for the guests and environmentally harmless chemicals. Local because you should support local producers. Every time you support local farms, you help avoid the emissions created when transporting food long distances. This also applies to the alcohol.

DRESSING UP
Every time when I go to a special event my thoughts are in the mall. I want to go there and buy a new dress to wear for the occasion. But that kind of thinking is wrong because this can add up to a lot of waste over the years. The better solution is exchanging clothes with your friends. That way you get the novelty of wearing something new, but save the shopping for items you’ll get more use of.

The green idea will save the environment and your budget.
