How to Perfectly Organize Your Fridge

Since spring is already all around us, it is the perfect time to start organizing everything at home that we’ve put off during the winter. In my house, the main thing that needs to come in order is my fridge.

Time passes by and contrary to my efforts to keep everything inside clean and fresh, sometimes my food just leaves a scent or a trace which can’t be easily removed. This is why I’ve decided to clean up my refridgerator and manifest the spring even in my kitchen area. Check out how I did it at my place.

The very first thing to do must be cleaning all things out. Take everything from the fridge out and throw away anything that is expired or you hardly ever use.

1. Leftovers

Last week, I was watching a TV-show and I realized that the actual longevity of leftovers is no more than 3 days. The right way to keep them in store is when placing them in a glass container and put a date stamp to remember how long they will proper to eat.

2. Check the Temperature

food temperature

The perfect temperature for your fridge is 5°C or under that. Whenever it’s above that, there is a risk of a dangerous bacteria appearing in your food. On the contrary, your food might freeze up if it’s colder than that level.

3. Place the Milk

There is a common belief that milk should be kept in the refridgerator door. In fact, it is right the opposite. Milk should be stored in a constant temperature zone, for example, on the top shelf of the fridge where it’s coldest.

4. A Room to Breathe

Everytime you overfill your fridge, you force the food in it to spoil twice as quick because you minimize the air that has to surround and keep it cool. Whenever you keep your fridge packed for a long time, it will end up with food wasting. You should simply try planning a few smaller shopping runs so you don’t throw away any leftovers. This will eventually save you some money as well.

5. Organize Your Drawers

It’s truly important for the order of each type of food in the drawers. The correct placement is responsible for keeping everything fresh and uo to date. Fruit should be kept in a plastic bag in the crisper drawers. Meat lasts longer if it’s stored in the shallow meat drawer, where temperature is a bit colder than through the rest of the fridge. Vegetables are best kept in the moistest place in your fridge.

6. Eggs in the Centre

Eggs are proved to be fresh only in a consistent temperature level, so the best place to keep them is on the middle fridge shelf.

7. Drip Protection

If you have ever put some raw packed meat on the top shelf, you have probably fallen a victim of a contamination issue after its juices drip. This can easily cause a terrible mess in your kitchen. Then you will definitely have to call a company to treat the stain. In order to avoid this, just wrap the raw meat in a package to secure it and after that store it on the bottom shelf of the fridge.

8. Whole Foods

Meat, fruit, and vegetables expire in the blink of an eye if they have been sliced and diced. Make you sure you manage to store your food whole until you’re about to include them in your meal plan.

9. Make a Grocery List

Whenever you want to keep the food fresh and ready to be prepared, think in advance what you will need and make a grocery list for the whole week. This technique will certainly help you pick up only the products that you need and avoid wasting money on food you will lately throw away. This way you will notice the important products you really need and focus on them.

10. Clean Inside the Fridge

You should start with wiping down anything that has been spillt all over the walls and the bottom parts of the drawers. Having removed all the stains and getting rid of the mess, now you can easily enjoy a clean and tidy fridge.
