I love Christmas. I’m keen on everything that makes this magical holiday atmosphere – the family dinner, the presents, the Christmas tree, the cookies. Yes, I just love the cookies.
Every year I try to find the best cookies in the city for me and my family. It’s not only important how they taste, but also how they look. I like them in shapes of snowmen, stars, Christmas trees, Santa Claus… I also like beautiful Christmas cookie tiens. I insist that every little detail about Christmas is just perfect.
So, last year I decided it’s time for my very first home made Christmas cookies. You know, I’m not the perfect housewife and I don’t usually bake cakes, but Christmas is important enough to make an exception.
Because I wanted it to be all authentic I searched for a recipe in my grandma’s cooking book. I decided to make Simple Sugar Cookies. The name of the recipe is not random. I wanted to try with the most simple recipe so that I’m sure that nothing would went wrong. And it didn’t. So I’m going to share with you this wonderful and easy recipe. Just give it a try!
The ingredients are:
- 1 cup softened butter or margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 cups flour
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
Mix the cream butter, sugar, egg and vanilla extract until blended. Add Flour and baking powder and mix well. Roll out the dough (not very tin) and shape as you want. I have cookie cutters in forms of snowman, star and Christmas tree. Bake the cookies for 7-8 minutes until they start to brown around the edges. Voila, they’re ready. Except of simple, the simple sugar cookies are very delicious, trust me.
Encouraged of my last year’s success for this Christmas I decided to try making a little bit more complicated cookies.
After a detailed research on Internet, my choice was Martha Stewart’s Stenciled Chocolate Cookies They seemed a little bit challeging. Level 2 🙂 The ingredients needed are:
- 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour, plus more for surface
- 1 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup grounds cinnamon
- Salt
- 3 sticks unsalted butter
- 2 1/2 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Royal icing
- Confectioners’ sugar or luster dust
The preparing of the Stenciled Chocolate Cookies is a little more complicated than the one for Simple sugar cookies. The 5 steps to do them, look on Martha Steward’s official site. It’ll take me a lot of time to tell you all about the making of the cookies an our idea is to save our precious time, right ladies?
I managed to bake the Stenciled chocolate cookies quite well. My husband just loved them. I believe, we’ll eat them all until Christmas. No problem, I could make them again or I can try some other cookies recipe.
Backing is not my thing. I love all kind of sweets, but I usually buy them from the grocery shop. But Christmas is the perfect time to be the perfect housewife… at least for a day. So, try to make cookies, they’ll bring joy to everyone around – your husband, your kids, your relatives, invited for a dinner.
P.S. Your mother in law will be quite impressed too, I assure you!
If you’ve tried baking other Christmas cookies, please share the recipe with me! I need inspiration for next year. Feel free to leave me notes, pictures or any kind of feedback in the comments below.
